Custom Dashboards & Custom Reporting

Last Updated: Nov 15, 2016 06:39AM EST

In this article you can learn more about how you can:

- Create a new dashboard.
- Add or customize a new widget to a dashboard.
- Grouping dashboards in a specific folder
Difference between date range in widgets and date range on dashboard.
- Position, Edit or Export a widget.
- Receive Automatic Email Reports for your Dashboards.

CX Social gives its users, with a Standard, Professional or Enterprise account, the power to create custom dashboards where you can see all the statistics, mentions, and charts that matter most to you in one place. A dashboard contains a number of widgets selected, configured, and placed by you. Multiple custom dashboards can be created for the same account.

Here is an example screenshot of a custom dashboard:

Custom dashboards, when available in your pricing plan, are shown and created at the 'home' section of CX Social:

Creating a New Dashboard

There are two ways to create a new dashboard:
  • Create an empty dashboard:

While logged in to your CX Social account, navigate to the home screen (see screenshot above) and click 'Create Dashboard'. In the dialog that appears, select that you want to start from scratch by clicking on 'empty'. Then, select which 'default topics' you wish to use for added widgets:

  • Copy one of your existing dashboards (all the widgets will be copied on new dashboard)
In order to copy an existing dashboard, first open the drop down menu in the upper left corner of your dashboard (underneath the cog wheel), and select 'Edit Dashboard'. In the popup, you should see 'Copy this Dashboard':

Adding/Customizing Widgets on a Dashboard

A dashboard is composed of widgets that contain up-to-date data, charts, and mentions.

Widgets can be added in two ways:

1. From within the Insights or Team Performance:

Go to the right side of your screen, open the menu, and select 'Add to Dashboard':

In the overlay that appears, you'll be able to select the components you'd like to see added to your Dashboard:

The popup screen shows extra options on where and how you'd like to add the component to a dashboard:

Press the x in order to close the overlay, and return to the Insights:

2. From the widget gallery:

While on your custom dashboard, select the 'add widget button from the toolbar on top:

This will bring up the widget gallery where you can search/filter available widgets, and select the one you want to add:

Note: If you search for 'team performance' at the top of the gallery, you will be able to add specific parts from your team performance to your dashboard.

When selecting a widget to add (or editing an existing one that was already on a dashboard), you can select its properties (e.g. topic it applies to, optional additional filters, and date range under 'advanced'). If you add a widget for the first time, you will get to see a live preview of the widget:

Note: If the chart builder is available in your pricing plan, you can place custom created charts/tables as a widget on your dashboard(s).

Grouping dashboards in a specific folder

If you're working in a large team, it can happen that there's quite a lot of dashboards in your account. Especially if you have different topics, different brands, different reporting,... the list could get endless.

Therefore we have the option to put dashboards in a specific folder to keep the overview neat and well arranged. If you want to add a dashboard to a certain folder, simply go to the dashboard settings and select the folder you wish to put the dashboard in:

Difference between date range in widgets and date range on dashboard

If you create a widget, you can also add a specific date range on that widget. And on your dashboard, whereon you usually have a collection of widgets, you can also choose a date range. So at first sight it might be a little bit confusing of which date range is now taken into account. There is actually one simple rule that you have to take into account: the date range on the widget always wins!

The following examples will explain the logic:

In this widget, the date range is set on 'today'. When we set the date range on the dashboard on 'last 28 days', we will first take the date range of the widget into account, and will thus only show the results for today.

Positioning, Exporting, and Editing Widgets

You can move a widget on a dashboard by dragging its title bar with the mouse, and resize it by dragging its bottom right edge.

If you have update permissions for the dashboard (this depends on your user role), you can see an edit icon when hovering your mouse over a widget. Clicking it shows the following options:

  • Edit: selecting this option will open a new dialog and give you the possibility to change the settings of your widget.
  • Delete: after confirmation, the widget will be deleted.
  • Refresh: all the widgets can be refreshed, so the data/KPI's will be recalculated.
  • Export to PDF, PNG, JPG, SVG Vector Image, CSV, Excel, Excel 2007, JSON: allows you to download the content of the widget in the type you prefer.
  • Print Chart: choose this option if you wish to have a printed version of your dashboard.

Receiving Automatic Email Reports

If you would like, you can also automatically receive Dashboard reports on a daily or weekly basis. To set this up, you go to Settings > Personal Account Settings > Reports > Dashboard Reports. Here you can choose the frequency of those reports.

We also implemented this feature to send those reports to people who aren't CX Social Users. To add their e-mail address to the list, go to one of your Dashboards. On the top of the page you can find a small settings icon. Click it to see a drop down menu where you can select 'Report Settings'.

Once you have clicked this, a pop-up screen appears. On the bottom you can change 'User' into 'Email' and then simply enter an email address in the small frame next to it.
